Abbott Botanical Assessments started out as an off-season income source during university, then gradually expanded into offering year-round botanical micro-consultancy services.
We are a values-driven organization dedicated to repairing the relationships between human and more-than-human communities.
“Plants and people belong together.”
All categorizations of plants (and non-plants perceived as “plants”) are supported in our work: fungi, moss, lichen, grasses, forbs, shrubs, trees, etc.
Plant diversity is vital to existing ecosystems, wildlife, insects and humans, especially in the face of human-caused climate change.
We embrace the study of botany as a trade and a form of connection for all communities.
Branding
Our branding is inspired by Opuntia spp., the genera encompassing the Prickly Pears.

This species exists as a beyond-borders symbol of adaptation, resilience and sustenance for many human and more-than-human communities.
A spiny friend, Prickly Pear is a land protector communicating that that their habitat needs rest, recovery and support.
They offer their gifts during these prescribed periods of rest: flowers to attract regional pollinators, fruit to feed many beings, and a source of red dye from scale insects to decorate the clothing of human communities.
When our representatives visit your community, we do our best to apply the lessons from Prickly Pear:
- Move slowly
- Live fully
- Offer freely
- Communicate mindfully
